A 'public health imperative' to support orphans
The consequences of parental or caregiver loss and orphan-hood can be catastrophic, the researchers said, including institutionalization, abuse, traumatic grief, mental illness, teen pregnancy, low educational achievement, and chronic and infectious diseases.
